A living cultural treasure
Visiting Batanes is like stepping back in time in the very best sense. The indigenous culture, the traditional architecture, the community spirit — all precious. Our guide, himself from an indigenous family, brought the cultural context to life in a way no book could.
Worth the journey to get here
Getting to Batanes requires some effort but every kilometer of travel is justified by what you find at the end. The scenery from the bus windows alone is extraordinary. The destination delivers on every promise and then some. This is what genuine off-the-beaten-path travel feels like.
Echo Valley was hauntingly beautiful
The hanging coffins and the view across Batanes's Echo Valley were unlike anything I've seen. The shouting tradition was surprisingly moving — the sound coming back has a quality that's hard to describe. The cave exploration was thrilling.
Stunning — pack for cold nights
Days at Batanes are pleasantly cool but nights can get genuinely cold. We weren't fully prepared but extra blankets were available. Just pack a warm layer at minimum! The destination itself is absolutely stunning — no complaints about that.
Cool air, warm hospitality
Coming from Metro Manila, the highland air at Batanes was such a welcome change. Locals are incredibly warm and welcoming. We visited during strawberry season and got to pick straight from the farms. Every meal was fresh and delicious. An underrated destination.
