Everyone knows Cloud 9 Siargao—it’s the face of Siargao, the shot you see on Instagram, the reason many people book their flights. But the island is far bigger than a single surf break.
At 437 square kilometers, Siargao is packed with hidden lagoons, rock pools, caves, and ecosystems that feel almost untouched. The real magic happens when you step away from Cloud 9 and start exploring.
Sugba Lagoon
About 45 minutes from General Luna, Sugba Lagoon feels like a different world. Surrounded by dense mangroves and forested hills, the water glows a deep emerald green.
You can swim, paddleboard, or climb onto the diving platform for a jump into clear, calm water. There’s a floating bamboo house in the middle where you can relax with fresh coconuts. It’s quiet, slow, and easily one of the most peaceful places on the island.
Sohoton Cove
Further out in Bucas Grande, Sohoton Cove offers something completely unique. You enter through a low cave passage at low tide, and suddenly you’re inside a hidden lagoon surrounded by towering rock walls.
During certain seasons, stingless jellyfish fill the water. Swimming among them feels surreal—like being inside a living, moving galaxy.
Magpupungko Rock Pools
At low tide, Magpupungko Rock Pools transforms into a natural swimming pool carved from rock. The water is crystal clear, warm, and incredibly calm.
Timing is everything—arrive a few hours before low tide to see the pools at their best. Afterward, grab grilled food from nearby stalls for a simple but satisfying meal.
Beyond the Famous Waves
While Cloud 9 gets the spotlight, Siargao’s surf scene is much deeper. Tuason Point offers more forgiving waves for intermediates, while Stimpy’s delivers powerful barrels for experienced surfers. Quicksilver is consistent and less crowded, making it a favorite for longer sessions.
Getting Around
Renting a motorbike is the best way to explore. The roads are mostly paved, and the freedom to stop anywhere—hidden beaches, roadside cafés, random viewpoints—is what makes Siargao special.
