The Ultimate Palawan Bucket List: El Nido, Coron & Puerto Princesa in One Trip

Palawan has been voted the world’s best island more times than anyone can keep track of—and once you see it for yourself, you’ll understand why. Towering limestone cliffs, impossibly clear water, hidden lagoons, and marine life that feels straight out of a documentary.

Most travelers choose just one stop—either El Nido or Coron—and call it a trip. But if you plan it right, you can experience all three major highlights—El Nido, Coron, and Puerto Princesa—in a single 10-day journey without feeling rushed or burned out. This itinerary is built for exactly that: maximum experience, minimal stress.

El Nido (Days 1–4)

Start your trip in El Nido, the crown jewel of Palawan. The first thing that hits you is the landscape—massive limestone karsts rising straight out of turquoise water, like a scene from a fantasy film. It doesn’t feel real at first.

On your first full day, book Island Hopping Tour A. It’s the most popular route for a reason: Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, and Secret Lagoon are some of the most iconic spots in the Philippines. Go early in the morning to beat both the crowds and the midday heat—the difference in experience is huge.

Day two is perfect for Tour C, which has a more relaxed, beach-focused vibe. Shimizu Island is ideal for snorkeling, Star Beach has calm, shallow waters, and the Three Islands offer a quieter, less crowded experience compared to Tour A.

On day three, take a break from island hopping and head to Nacpan Beach. It stretches for kilometers, with soft sand and fewer developments, giving it a more untouched feel. Spend the day swimming, eating fresh seafood, or just doing nothing—which is kind of the point in Palawan.

Day four acts as your buffer—use it for last-minute exploring, café hopping, or simply resting before your transfer.

Coron (Days 5–7)

From El Nido, make your way to Coron by boat or short flight. The vibe here shifts slightly—less dramatic cliffs above water, but far more happening underneath.

Coron is known as the wreck diving capital of the Philippines. Beneath its waters lie Japanese warships from World War II, now transformed into artificial reefs. Even if you’re not a diver, snorkeling above these wrecks is surreal—you’re literally floating over history.

Don’t miss Kayangan Lake, often called the cleanest lake in Asia. The short hike to the viewpoint gives you one of the most photographed views in the country. Twin Lagoon is another highlight, where warm and cool waters mix in a narrow passage between cliffs.

In the evening, head to Maquinit Hot Springs. Sitting in warm, saltwater pools after a full day of island hopping hits differently—especially at sunset.

If you have extra energy, rent a kayak and explore Coron Bay at your own pace. It’s one of the best ways to escape the tour crowds.

Puerto Princesa (Days 8–10)

End your trip in Puerto Princesa, where things slow down even more. This is your transition back to reality—but with a few final highlights.

The main attraction is the Puerto Princesa Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. You’ll take a paddle boat through a massive cave system filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and cathedral-like chambers. It’s quiet, eerie, and unforgettable.

Make sure to book permits in advance—slots fill up quickly, especially during peak season.

On your last day, explore Honda Bay through another island-hopping tour. Luli Island, Pandan Island, and Starfish Island offer calmer, shallower waters—perfect for a more relaxed ending to your trip.

Tips

  • Fly into El Nido via Manila or Cebu for convenience
  • Plan transfers early—boats and small aircraft fill up fast
  • Dry season (November–May) offers the best conditions
  • Always bring reef-safe sunscreen—both El Nido and Coron strictly enforce it
